Morphological and histological studies on the reproductive system of Puntius sarana sarana (Hamilton, 1822) (Cyprinidae)

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to describe the phases of gonadal of P.sarana sarana under captive conditions. The different stages of oogenesis and spermatogenetic development were examined microscopically. The study revealed five different morphological phases in testis development and six morphological phases in ovarian development. It was concluded that, eight stages for oocyte development and five stages of spermatozoa of the species under study were identified under microscopic studies.
